Sangweni retires

“I’d like to thank the Lord for giving me the ability to play and also for granting me all I have asked in my career. I want to thank my team, those that found me here and those who I met. Thank you for respecting and for working with me,” Defender Siyabonga Sangweni.

“To the youngsters, always remember that when you come here you have come to work hard and not mess around. Listen, learn, and apply.

“Don’t listen to negative criticism and always remember to be ready for the chance when you are called upon.

“I will remain a Buccaneer, Once and Always.”

Thabo Matlaba paid tribute to Sangweni, saying: “On behalf of the players, we wish Siya well. He has been a good soldier, we love him, we’ll miss him and we’ll never forget him.”
The veteran defender called time on his career this morning after a protracted battle with injuries, having also represented Nathi Stars, Uthukela FC and Golden Arrows. He also played 29 times for Bafana Bafana.
