Issa Sarr has expressed a strong desire to win his first
silverware with Orlando Pirates and make his CAF return after reaching the
Nedbank Cup final on Sunday.
Bucs beat Golden Arrows 1-0 in their semi-final encounter at
the Princess Magogo Stadium, to book a final rematch with SuperSport United on
June 24 at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The 30-year-old Senegalese defensive midfielder has been a
key man in the heart of Bucs' midfield for three seasons now. But despite
having reached two cup finals - the CAF Confederation Cup in 2015 and the
Nedbank Cup in 2016 - Sarr is still yet to lay his hands on silverware.
He exclusively told Vodacom Soccer: "Reaching the Nedbank
Cup final has come as a relief for us after such a disappointing season, and
our main objective is none other than winning this cup for our supporters.
"By the look of things, our chances of securing a top
eight finish are very slim, so the Nedbank Cup is our only hope now. So, we
will need to die with our boots on, come June 24 against SuperSport in the
final."
Bucs lost 3-2 to Matsatsantsa in last year's Nedbank Cup
final.
He added: "They [SuperSport] beat us in last year's
Nedbank final, and we meet them again in the same tournament's final. We can't
lose the cup final against the same team, that must not happen!
"Look, I have been to two cup finals with Pirates in my
three seasons, but I still yet to win my first silverware with the team. So,
I'm really longing to win this one, and return to CAF Confederation Cup next
year."
