Orlando Pirates are believed to have turned down a multi-million rand approach for Thembinkosi Lorch, opting to rather keep hold of the reigning Absa Premiership Player of the Season.
It was recently reported that Lorch, who scored a vital winning goal for the Buccaneers over the weekend, had been the subject of an enquiry from Israeli outfit, Hapoel Be’er Sheva, who were prepared to pay just under R10 million for the attacker’s services as they looked to bring him on board.
Lorch, 26, will have been delighted to end his goal duck against Stellenbosch FC on Saturday after his strike from range saw him score his first goal for the club since back in May prior to his famous strike at the Africa Cup of Nations against Egypt. Be’er Sheva, who were playing in this year’s UEFA Europa League qualifiers not so long ago, clearly liked what they saw from the Bucs attacker, though it appears he is valued at more than _ what they were prepared to pay for him at this current juncture.
The attacker hasn’t had the best 2019/20 season so far, battling injury and also seeing his side bundled out of the CAF Champions League before the group stages, but he will no doubt be looking to put all that behind him now that he’s got his first goal of the season.
It remains to be seen whether the Israelis, or Club Brugge (who also had a bid for Lorch turned down during the last transfer window), will make another attempt to sign him when the January window opens up, or whether they will turn their attentions elsewhere as ‘Nyoso’ remains in Soweto.
