According to sources in the know, his immediate future could be altered in the coming months, though at this point in time, it does not look promising.
Having joined the Buccaneers during the off-season amidst much fanfare, following his stellar performances for Bloemfontein Celtic, the 22-year-old fullback has found the going tough with regards to getting game-time at the club.
Sam, who is yet to make his official debut for the Soweto giants, has found himself down the pecking order behind the likes of Innocent Maela and Paseka Mako in his position. While the player is determined on making an impact at Pirates, while also waiting for his chance under interim coach Rhulani Mokwena, an indication is that the club could decide to loan him out in January to help him get game-time if his situation doesn’t change.
“Bongani Sam could be loaned out by Pirates in January if he is still struggling for game-time. He is a talented player who just needs game-time to progress,” said a source.
The Nedbank Ke Yona team product, who has also been on the books of Highlands Park, will be hoping to have increased his chances of making the match day squads at Bucs now that he has fully recovered from injury.
