Bradley Grobler remains Orlando Pirates’ preferred target in their hunt for a striker, and Siya sources have informed the crew that the ball is in SuperSport United’s court to name their asking price for one of their best players.
The Buccaneers were in hot pursuit of Grobler during the off-season and were expected to land the forward soon after Thamsanqa Gabuza went the other way in June, but Matsatsantsa took the decision to hold on to their goal ace, opting to purchase Gabuza outright.
According to Siya sources, the agreement between the two clubs would have been a swap deal at the time – but those terms have changed. Insiders have suggested that should the deal go through in January when the transfer window reopens, the Buccaneers are likely to make a cash bid once they know exactly what SuperSport’s valuation of Grobler is, especially given his new three-year contract kicked in at the start of the current season.
Grobler has himself expressed an interest in joining one of the traditional Big Three in Mzansi, and told the media recently that he was soon to hold talks with SuperSport regarding his future plans, which may include Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Siya crew exclusively revealed two months ago that the Brazilians had made a last-minute bid on deadline day to lure Grobler to Chloorkop, but SuperSport did not budge.
Pirates are now understood to be waiting on Stan Matthews, the SuperSport CEO, to name his price for the inform Grobler to move ahead with their pursuit of the striker.
