Bonginkosi Ntuli signed for Mamelodi Sundowns in 2014. At the time, he was identified as one of Mzansi’s rising stars and earmarked as a future Bafana Bafana star. When he put pen to paper over five years ago, Ntuli was 23 years old and the big move came on the back of an impressive campaign for Golden Arrows as Downs edged Orlando Pirates to his signature.
His move to Downs, however, did not materialise as anticipated, though indications are that the striker could get a second bite of the apple at one of the so-called Big Three of the PSL.
Ntuli was sent out on loan throughout his time at Chloorkop, until he was signed by AmaZulu FC on a permanent contract – a three-year deal sealed in January this year - in a swap that saw Argentinean striker Emiliano Tade going the other way. Ntuli has been in top form since joining Usuthu as their leading striker and it is believed that his displays have not gone unnoticed.
Both of the Soweto giants, in Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, are said to be keeping an eye on the 28-year-old, with a view of adding him to their respective rosters next season. And it comes as no surprise as the Pietermaritzburg-born player has scored seven goals so far this season. He is oneof the leading goalscorers in the league and what is astonishing, is that he has scored all of AmaZulu’s league goals to date.
“Bonginkosi Ntuli’s form for AmaZulu and his knack for scoring goals resulted in him attracting interest from big clubs in the PSL. I can confirm that both Pirates and Chiefs are eyeing the player,” confirmed a source.
“The boy is among the leading goalscorers in the PSL early on in the season and it’s not surprising that there’s this huge interest in his services,” the source added.
Indications are that Pirates have identified him as a target to compete with the likes of Tshegofatso Mabaso, while Chiefs see him as a possible replacement for Leonardo Castro, should the South American not agree to a new deal with the club. In addition, it is understood that Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki is keeping an eye on the Pietermaritzburg-born forward, with view of adding him to the senior national team set-up.
