Pirates lead Chiefs in Ntuli race

Orlando Pirates appear to have the edge over Kaizer Chiefs as interest in AmaZulu FC’s in-form and sought-after striker, Bonginkosi Ntuli, hots up. Chiefs are facing a two-year transfer ban and even if they are able to overturn it after their appeal, Sources have indicated that their cross-city rivals are leading the race for Ntuli’s signature.

The interest from both Chiefs and Pirates in Ntuli was revealed last year, and during the January transfer window, Bucs made a push for the 28-year-old forward. Sources explained that there was talk of the player joining the Bucs camp and that the player’s camp was keen to entertain the offer, though Usuthu put the brakes on any suggested move.

According to the sources, the interest was discussed, but did not even reach a level where a transfer fee was deliberated on. According to the sources, AmaZulu are relying on the goalscorer to pull them out of the relegation zone they are currently in.

Of the 12 goals scored by AmaZulu in their 2019/20 Absa Premiership campaign, Ntuli has netted 11, and he is clearly a key player for the side. It is believed that while AmaZulu were not willing to lose Ntuli, or any of their top players in January, the Durban-based outfit could look to cash in on the former Mamelodi Sundowns player at the end of the season.

According to the sources, Chiefs are monitoring Ntuli’s situation, though Pirates seem to have the edge at this point in time. And even if Chiefs’ ban is upheld, Pirates will still be in a strong position to land their target.
