It has been revealed to the Siya crew that Nkanyiso Zungu, who was Orlando Pirates’ only new signing during the January transfer window, has penned a long-term contract which includes an option.
The 24-year-old joined Bucs from Stellenbosch FC on January 31, the same day that the transfer window slammed shut, although he is yet to make his official debut for the club as he’s been set back by injury. However, the midfielder, who can also be utilized as a winger, will have plenty of time to prove his worth to the Bucs supporters.
While the Soweto giants confirmed that Zungu had signed a three-year deal with the club, sources have indicated that an option for an additional year has been put in place. And if exercised, he will be at the club until 2024. Zungu is a product of the AmaZulu FC youth ranks, where he was promoted to the first team back in July 2015.
The player was thereafter sent out on loan to Jomo Cosmos for six months, in 2018, and upon his return to the KwaZulu Natal-based outfit, completed a permanent switch to Stellenbosch. He made 18 appearances in all competitions in his first topflight season with the Western Cape outfit, and caught the Buccaneers’ eye in the process. He will now be looking to continue with his progress at one of the biggest clubs on the African continent, where he will be nurtured by coach Josef Zinnbauer.
