Songne Yacouba’s representative has confirmed that they are work-ing on a potential Absa Premiership move for the 28-year-old for next season.
The Burkina Faso international striker has been linked with a move to Mzansi since last year April and now that his contract with Ghanaian outfit Asante Kotoko is set to expire, there is talk that a move could materialise. At the time he was heavily linked with Orlando Pirates and Kotoko even issued a warning to his potential suitors, following the reports that the Buccaneers and other clubs had attempted to sign him, as the player was still left with one year on his contract.
With the player’s deal is set to expire next month, and after the negotiations with Ghanaian giants hit a snag, the Siya crew has been informed that talks with clubs in the PSL have been initiated. And it seems as though Kotoko are pre-paring for the future without him.
In recent weeks, he has been in and out of Kotoko’s match-day squads. According to a source, the player’s camp has offered the player to clubs in Mzansi with one of them being Golden Arrows.
“There’s a striker from Asante Kotoko whose name is Yacouba, and his agent is working on a move for him to the PSL. This is the player that Pirates wanted to sign. The guy (agent) I am talking about is here in South Af-rica as we speak, and has had contact with some PSL clubs about the player.
“I know that Golden Arrows is one of the clubs that have been contacted for the player and they are interested. But nothing has been finalised as the guy wants to keep options open for the player in preparation for next season,” said the source.
Following the news from the source, the Siya crew contacted Yacouba’s Ghana-born representative, Ahmed Nuno, for comment and he confirmed that they have already received offers.
“The player’s contract (with Kotoko) is finishing on 01 April. We want something here (in the Absa Premiership) for him. Some clubs have sent their offers but we’ve not been happy with them,” Nuno told the Siya crew.
Regarding interest from Pirates, the representative confirmed having spoken to the club in the past. “That was before, that was last year to be exact. This year, no! I don’t know (if Pirates is still interested). We are trying to see if we can get something here. The player is very good. Even the supporters in Ghana want to pay the money that the guy (Yacouba) wants so that he can stay with Kotoko.
“Golden Arrows have given us an offer for the player, and there are also two teams from Tanzania – Azam and Simba. But we weren’t satisfied with their offers, and we are looking for something better here in South Africa, or in Europe,” Nuno added.
It now remains to be seen if Pirates do reignite their interest in the player as they aim to beef up their strike force, or if they opt to look elsewhere. The Siya crew will con-tinue to monitor the situation and keep you updated.
