Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands will see his contract with the club expire at the end of the 2019/20 campaign, though he could be extending his spell.
It’s no secret that Pirates are looking to make potential changes to their goalkeeper structures, with Maritzburg United’s Richard Ofori heavily linked with a move to Orlando. AmaZulu FC’s Siyabonga Mbatha has also been linked to the club, while Ghanaian Felix Annan has been offered to them.
To make space for a potential new arrival, there could be an exit at Bucs, and it may not be Sandilands. Siyabonga Mpontshane still has one year left to run on his deal. However, indications are that he could be shown the exit, while Sandilands signs a new contract.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns keeper has made Pirates’ number one jersey his own, having amassed 20 appearances from the 23 league matches played by the team so far this season, and registering eight clean sheets in the process.
Following a positive campaign under coach Josef Zinnbauer, indications are that the Soweto giants are keen on extending the 36-year-old player’s deal by a further two years. However, the player’s representatives from Revolve Talent would neither confirm nor deny that Sandilands will be extending his spell.
“Nothing to report back on right now,” Revolve Talent’s Alex Shahim told the Siya crew.
Sandilands penned a three-year deal with Pirates in 2017, after seeing his contract with Sundowns expire, having spent more than seven years with the Chloorkop-based club.
French goalkeeper Joris Delle, who joined Pirates on a three-year deal in June last year, is expected to be at the club next season, as things stand.
