Five-year deal for Tyson at Pirates?

Although the club has yet to make any official comment about their targets for next season, it’s no secret that Thulani Hlatshwayo has been top of Orlando Pirates’ wish-list for some time now and indications are that they have beaten Mamelodi Sundowns to his signature.

Word is that the Buccaneers are believed to have long secured the Bafana Bafana and Bidvest skipper on a five-year contract.

Pirates are understood to have been after Tyson dating back to last season, but a potential deal fell through when Bidvest Wits offered him a lucrative extension to his ex-isting deal in August, though the situation has changed now with the club being sold. The Sturrock Park outfit will be relocated and renamed later this year when businessman Masala Mulaudzi moves it to Venda after buying the club, and Hlatshwayo is one of several high-profile players not expected to move to Limpopo.

Sundowns, as previously reported, did make the player a money-spinning offer and a straight three-year contract with an added option to have it extended for two more years – but it’s clear now that Tyson, 30, has turned it down. Indications are that he has instead put pen to paper on a five-year deal at Pirates, though this deal could also be split into a straight three years with added options, too.

Official confirmation on this is only expected when the 2019/20 season does conclude, with the Buccaneers understood to be wary of making any announcements regarding player movements while Tyson still has to do duty for Wits.
