The latest news reaching the Siya crew’s desk is that Orlando Pirates are believed to be back in talks for their long-time transfer target. The Siya crew initially reported on Pirates’ interest in SuperSport United’s Bradley Grobler back in May last year, where, at the time, the Buccaneers were eager to bolster their attacking department, this before the addition of both Gabadinho Mhango and Tshegofatso Mabasa.
Grobler, who’s also been on the radar of Mamelodi Sundowns, remained a target for the Soweto giants months later and, in November 2019, the Siya crew revealed that Pirates were likely to make a cash bid for the 32-year-old in the January transfer window of this year - pending an indication from SuperSport about their asking price for his services.
However, no move materialised for the striker at the time and, in March 2020, Grobler’s representative, Gary Cassisa, confirmed that SuperSport took the option on the player’s contract, keeping him at the club until 2022. Sources in the know have since indicated to the Siya crew that Bucs have made fresh - though informal - enquiries into the availability of Grobler for the new season.
As previously reported by the Siya crew, SuperSport are implementing serious budget cuts at the club, which could force Matsatsantsa to sell one or two of their best players. So far, Sundowns are understood to have already made an offer for the services of Aubrey Modiba and it remains to be seen whether Bucs will look to approach the club with a bid for Grobler.
Too old to steer the Buccaneer ship
