Orlando Pirates have a big decision to make on the future of Justin Shonga, the Siya crew being informed that there is a whopping R15 million offer on the table from CS Maritimo, who have recently inquired about his services.
The Buccaneers have used the Zambian hitman sparingly this season and Shonga has been a frustrated figure lately because of it, though he remains contracted to the club for at least another two years.
His agent, Karabo Mathang, confirmed to the Siya crew last week that the Portuguese Primeira Liga outfit were keen to lure the striker to Europe. It’s now emerged that Maritimo are so serious that they have of-fered Pirates around R15 million to take Shonga off their hands.
“There has been an enquiry for Shonga from Maritimo in Portugal – however, the decision rests with Orlando Pirates, where he currently has a contract. The onus is on the interested party to approach his club and then we can take it from there,” Mathang said at the time.
It remains to be seen whether Pirates will cash in, especially in this current economic climate and when such a massive transfer fee would go a long way.
Shonga does not appear to be in the plans of coach Josef Zinnbauer and indications are that the player is ready for a fresh start elsewhere.
